COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Description

This 2-day practical course was created for small animal practitioners with knowledge and practical experience with small animal ultrasound of the large abdominal organs (liver, spleen, GI & urogenital tracts) who want to take their skills to the next level.  Vets will learn how to examine the adrenal glands, pancreas, accessible lymph nodes, vascular system and reproductive tract, enabling them to perform a complete and comprehensive abdominal ultrasound exam.

The 7 hours of interactive lectures and case-discussions will focus on how to perform a systematic and complete ultrasonographic exam of the entire abdomen and how to identify the following structures and differentiate between normal and abnormal ultrasonographic appearances:

  • Adrenal Glands & Pancreas
  • Commonly Identifiable Lymph Nodes – Jejunal & Medial Iliac
  • Commonly Identifiable Vessels – Aorta, Caudal Vena Cava & Portal Vein
  • Male & Female Reproductive Tracts
  • Fine Needle Aspirates, Ultrasound-Guided Biopsies & Cystocentesis Techniques
  • Common Artefacts
  • Advanced Abdominal Ultrasound Case-Discussion

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the lectures and practical sessions, making this course highly interactive.

The 6-7 hours of practical sessions in small groups (max. 3-4 attendees per machine and live dog) will allow the attendee to train the different aspect of the abdominal ultrasound exam beyond the large abdominal organs on live dogs under the close supervision of the highly experienced instructors:

  • Adrenal Glands
  • Pancreas
  • Commonly Identifiable Lymph Nodes
  • Vascular Ultrasound
  • Reproductive Tract
  • Fine Needle Aspirates, Ultrasound-Guided Biopsies & Cystocentesis Techniques

By the end of this course, the participants will be comfortable and confident in identifying and examining the adrenal glands, pancreas, accessible lymph nodes, vascular system and reproductive tract and in differentiating normal from abnormal abdominal appearances.

The course fee includes lunches at a restaurant, coffee/tea breaks, a wine & cheese reception, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance. Attendees can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures & Practical Sessions).  Early course registration is recommended as there are only limited number of places available due to the highly practical nature of this course.
